Come with friends, come by yourself, come however suits you, make new friends, laugh, chat and feel at home. May is a great time of year too, well into spring with lots of opportunities to walk, wild swim and explore the beautiful area.

May 2026: Friday 1st – Sunday 3rd

Come and join us for our informal photography weekend!

This spring, we have organised an informal photography weekend —a gentle gathering to come together, wander, and see. We’ll explore the beautiful natural surroundings of North Yorkshire near and around Horton-in-Ribblesdale at an unhurried pace, sharing time, conversation, and ways of looking. Bring yourself, your curiosity, and whatever you have that takes photos—a phone, a camera, an old favourite. No pressure, no experience required—just a weekend of noticing, connection, and making images in good company. The specific plans for the weekends will be organised by those who book. Looking forward to seeing you here!

Further dates for photography weekends to follow for summer, autumn and winter 2026.

Feel free to spread the word among your friends, groups and networks for those you think might be interested!

March 2006: Friday 13th – Sunday 15th

This informal weekend focuses on relaxed walking for women who love walking. As with the ones in 2025, it will be self-organised by the women who book for it, with walking routes suggested by couple of women who are keen walkers and would love to share some walks with some other women.

In addition to walking, there is also the option of organising shared meals and other social activities together too.

The walks will be informal and optional, with each woman responsible for themselves, and will be varied – one will be easy going and one more difficult. Please bring what you will need to walk in. The house also has a selection of walking boots and coats in different sizes you can borrow (for sizes, get in touch with us).

We hope you’ll be able to join us and enjoy relaxed walking and the company of women amid fabulous countryside and beautiful summer wildlife.

Other dates for the rest of the year to follow.

March: Monday 9th – Friday 13th

June: Monday 22nd – Friday 26th

If you’re interested and have the time, come and help out at your holiday centre on one of our volunteer work weeks. There is always plenty to do around the house – interior and exterior – to improve its well-being and aesthetic.

If you’ve specific skills or would simply love to come help and get involved in anyway you are able to and are interested in, we’d love to hear from you at our usual email address: info@hortonwhc.org.uk

For every 5 hours volunteer work you do, you are able to stay for a free nights stay with all included as usual.

External events in the surrounding area

There are often different events and activities on offer in the surrounding areas that are accessible from the centre by train, bus, car or (or foot if you’re a walker!). We will update this section as and when new events come up.
