Horton Women's Holiday Centre

Providing affordable holidays for women and children since 1980

Prices

The Women’s Holiday Centre aims to provide holiday accommodation for as many women and children as possible. Everyone deserves the right to a holiday!

Pricing scale

We operate a sliding scale to make the centre as affordable as possible. Guests calculate what you pay for your night’s stay based on your gross annual income. Gross income is the total amount of your income including tax credits, housing benefits etc, before tax or anything else is taken off. Guests include all income when working out how much to pay eg. Universal Credit, Housing benefit, Tax Credits, pension etc.

*Our running costs are approximately £30 per person per night. Guests are encouraged to pay more if they can.

Outside of school holiday times we also offer a mid-week “3 nights for the price of 2” deal (excluding Friday and Saturday).

What is included in the price per night?

The price per night includes: the provision of fresh vegetarian and vegan food with gluten-free options for you to be able to cook your own meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We have a good ranges of herbs, spices, grains, beans, pastas, rice, flour, alongside white and brown bread with spreads (jam, honey, peanut butter, marmite), plus a selection of fresh fruit and vegetables for cooking and salads. There is also a selection of teas, plus dairy milk and butter, and soya milk and vegan spread. Our large self-catering kitchen is well stocked and the kitchen table is a wonderful place to gather around and share meals together.

All bedding is provided and there are hot water bottles and blankets. There are also towels available, so that those on public transport can manage more easily.

What else can we bring?

You are more than welcome to bring your own food and drink (including alcohol) with you as well, excluding meat or fish. We have two fridges and a freezer for you to store extra food and drink. We also provide labels for you to name you what you bring if you would like exclusive use of your items.

Check-in and check-out times

There are no set checking in and checking out times, we just request approximate arrival times to be provided to us either in the Guest Form completed when booking or via email prior to arrival.

Guests are asked to let us know if they intend to stay later in the day on the day of departure and to make a donation for lunch and/or an evening meal if these are eaten that day.

Camping & staying in your own van

You are welcome to camp in the garden or park up your camper van in the drive way, while making the most of all the centre has to offer. Charges are based on the same sliding scale as above less £2 per adult per night. This includes food and the use of all centre facilities. Tents and bedding etc. are not provided for campers.

Closed house & large group bookings

Groups may book the whole house for exclusive use. This must be for a minimum of two nights if it is at the weekend with a minimum of 16 guests per night. The involvement of workers during this time can be negotiated. Boys up to their 15th birthday can come at the discretion of the worlers if that’s what the group agrees. Groups of less than 16 can book exclusive use of specific bedrooms depending on availability and on the size of your group

How much does it cost to book out the whole house?

Every person in the group still pays individually according to the sliding scale (above). The minimum closed house group booking rates (below) only apply when that minimum rate is more than the total of what the group would pay based on the sliding scale. For example: if the total cost per night equals £150 based on group members paying to the sliding scale, then the group must pay the minimum rate of £200 or £400 per night depending on the nature of the group.

Closed house minimum rates
  • Statutory and funded groups / organisations – minimum £400 per night
  • Informal and unfunded groups / organisations – minimum £200 per night

Feel free to contact us about this. These amounts are the minimum we need to sustain the house. It might be possible to negotiate a lower amount mid-week at off-peak times. Our “3 nights for the price of 2” mid-week offer during term time still applies for group bookings (excluding Fridays and Saturdays).

Booking the centre for retreats, workshops, meetings

OVERNIGHT, EXCLUSIVE USE OF THE CENTRE: The centre is great place for retreats, workshops, and other group events where you require overnight stay and exclusive use of the whole centre. The centre is regularly booked as a closed house for women’s wellbeing retreats, gatherings for women’s organisations, and convenings of community-based groups and initiatives. We love having the centre booked out for these activities. We only ask that the activity the centre is booked for is strictly not-for-profit and that attendees only pay the price per night as per our pricing scale and at least the minimum rates for closed houses. The centre leaves it entirely up to the group to organise its own additional costs associated with the activity such as transportation, extra food and drink, or activity supplies. Please get in touch with us via phone or email to discuss your interest and needs.

DAYTIME ONLY BOOKINGS: It is also possible to book the centre for daytime use only, such as for meetings or group activities. If you are interested in this, please get in touch with us via phone or email to discuss further.

“We came as a group from our community centre, escaping the hustle and bustle of the daily grind. We have all found total peace within this beautiful space both indoors and out. We have all de-stressed and been able to unwind”
