Horton Women's Holiday Centre

Providing affordable holidays for women and children since 1980

How the centre is run

The Women’s Holiday Centre runs as a co-operative with a voluntary Management Committee overseeing key decisions and employment matters. Additional support comes from volunteers who help with tasks like house-sitting, gardening and specific projects. Two workers (one full-time, one part-time) manage the daily operations, ensuring a warm, welcoming environment for guests. The centre does not have cleaners so it’s important that everyone chips in to keep the house clean, tidy and looking good. Guests are asked to contribute 20 minutes of help around the house per day, such as cleaning or gardening to support the smooth running of the house.

The centre as a co-operative

The Women’s Holiday Centre is owned and run as a not-for-profit women’s co-operative. As a co-op we believe in shared responsibility and community. Co-operative members take an active role in shaping the future of the house. We hold two General Meetings each year where members are updated on developments and make key decisions or policy changes. If you are interested in becoming a co-op member and have relevant skills or experience we’d love to hear from you! Once accepted it’s just £1 to join. If you are interested in joining please contact us at:

Management Committee

The Management Committee (MC) is a group of women who support centre workers, make key decisions and undertake all the necessary management tasks. MC meetings are held every 4–6 weeks, often on-line. The centre always welcomes new women with fresh energy getting involved. To join the MC you need to attend three consecutive meetings and demonstrate that you have relevant skills and experience and a commitment to the WHC. If you are interested to join the MC please contact us at:

Workers

The centre employs two resident workers who run the centre on a day to day basis and welcome and support guests during their stay. If you think you might ever be interested in becoming a worker, please get in touch with us:
